Charlie McGrillen
15th March 1988
aged 26
General Assistant
Belfast
4 brothers and 1 sister (married with one daughter Charlene)
Shot dead going to work on a very rainy tuesday morning.
My Brother Charlie was always a good laugh. My mum used to say he would bet on two flys walking up
a wall, He loved a wee bet on the horses. He was a very good hearted person he was always helping
elderly people and would let beggars into my mums garden to cut the grass and trim the rose-bush,
then he would make them tea and sandwiches and sit and talk to them.
My mum said he would face galiath himself but mention a ghost or anything spooky and he was away
like lightning. My brothers used to play pranks on him. They would rig up all sorts of stuff in
his room and make noises behind his bed and he would be lying there terrified while they all let on
they were asleep and they were killing themselves laughing under the bedclothes...!
Charlie Married Kate and they were not that long married when Kate became pregnant with Charlene.
Charlie was so proud of his little girl, He would walk her round to my mums house because he only
lived round the corner andshe was always dressed in lovely dresses and her hair as neat as a pin.
You could see the pride in his face when he had her with him.
He was late for work that morning of 15th March because he was teaching his little Charlene her
prayer's and forgot the time
He was shot dead by two men on a motorcycle just as he arrived for work.
I will never forget that morning because it came on the news and my mum jumped out of bed and got
dressed. She said to me "Angela a man has been shot at Dunne's Stores" and i said "ok so " and she
couldn't settle she knew it was her son even before she was told officially. My mum never got over
losing Charlie and now she has joined him up in heaven with my dad. So now he is back with his Mum
and Dad and we all miss him and love him very much.
God bless you Charlie till we meet again.
He never thought that when leaving home, he would never more return, that he in death so soon would
sleep and leave us here alone.
A sudden call from God on high, you had no chance to say goodbye, without farewell you fell asleep
but memories of you we'll always keep.
Those who loved you dearly are the one's who wont forget.
No farewells were spoken, we did not say goodbye, you were gone before we knew it and only God knows
why.
But we will always remember our whole lives through the last words we had with you.
We never fail to pray for you, we never cease to care, we wish we could go home again and find you
waiting there.
To the Throne of Christ he will guide us and with us he will stand and that golden chain will be
linked again, locked by Christ's own Sacred hands.
Step bravely forward into the new year,
Shrug off grief’s grey mantle of fear,
Know that I shadow your every tread,
Helping you to face whatever lies ahead
Hovering at the periphery of your sight,
I am just out of view, a star in the dark night,
Feel my breath in the sigh of the breeze,
Learn that I am your mind’s true ease
Let sunlight brush the clouds from your vision,
Place my thoughts into your daily decisions,
Open the box of all our sweet memories,
Listen to others when they share my stories
As you forge a path through complex days,
Believe that I grow, in a safe, free place,
My life is no more on this earth plane,
Yet my soul lives on, to ease your pain.
His Mum and Dads Page is on here too under the name of Mary Bridget and Gerard Francis McGrillen
